Friday FUNNIES!!!!

Today was the last day of school for the twins!!!! YEAH!! Pucca and I went to school for the last 15 minutes to take some pictures - it was alot of fun! The kids were so excited, counting down the seconds, and then screaming super loud when the bell rang. It sort of brought back memories of my last days of school- especially elementary school! Nothing was more fun than the last day of school!

So my Friday funny for this week is a something about one of my last days of school. When I was in 6th grade (the last year at my elementary school- because we moving up to the jr.high in 7th) all of my friends were talking about going swimming and get tans etc. Well- I didn't have any sisters, only two brothers and for the most part I was a tomboy- so I really had no clue what they were talking about.

We only had a half day - school got out at noon. I walked home with my brother, and started thinking about this whole tanning thing. It was a fairly warm day and the sun was shining. Maybe I could get started on my tan today...

So when I got home, I changed into my swimsuit- grabbed a towel and laid out on the deck. Somehow I managed to fall asleep on my stomach, my face turned sideways and my head propped up on one arm. My mom woke me up when she got home at 5...PM...um ya! Burn baby burn! Stupidest thing I ever did! Trying to be all girly-like!

Only half my face was red, one arm and the backs of my legs- Needless to say the first week of summer wasn't so fun!

Here's a pic of Kynna's class...the boy in the red standing by Kynna has a serious crush on her! He even came up and introduced himself to me at the school concert- shook my hand and everything! Too cute!

Here is Kwynn's class...well most of them I think...it was kind of crazy! It was just minutes before the bell rang.

And here are the girls, some of their friends and their PE teacher who is retiring.

Weekend fun!

We spent the weekend at Davey. Sunday was spent at the lake...the water was freezing so most of time was spent playing in the sand or on the boat.

Here are the girls and their cousin Sam striking a pose on the sail boat.

Later that evening we saw this heading towards us...Davey is north of town...the is the edge of the storm that hit Sunday night.

Here's another pic...we climbed up on the roof to watch it roll in...it was crazy how fast those winds and clouds were moving.

The storm brought about 3 minutes of hail...little pea sized stuff- but enough to cover the decks.

Only an hour after the storm- this is what the sky looked like!

I LOVE Nebraska sunsets! There's nothing like them!

Friday FUNNIES!!!!

I'm starting to think I should rename this - "In the words of Pucca..."

John, me and all three girls were driving to the school for a concert. We passed a house that had a lot of "stuff" in the yard. Basically crap and junk...

Pucca sees it and says "Hey look! They have their own junk yard - that's so cool!"

On to dandelions-

It took me a few weeks to explain to her that these were in fact weeds and not the prettiest yellow flowers in all the world.

So we were walking to the park and we passed a house whose yard was full of dandelions. The homeowner happened to be outside and Pucca felt the need to inform the lady that she should do something with her weeds. Her exact words: "You know these are weeds not flowers. You should really get rid of them. It doesn't look very good. "

Good thing it was an older lady and I'm pretty sure her hearing aid didn't pick up on Pucca's criticisms.

SOOOOOO CLOSE!

I am so excited about the holiday weekend coming up! We don't have any BIG plans- just a nice low key weekend with family full of relaxation and fun!

But I'm mostly excited about the fact that we get to sleep in until 8 am on Saturday...woooo hoooo! You'd be surprised at how much of a difference those couple of hours can make!

I can't wait for summer!

Compulsive Mower

Here's my best spycam pic- he's actually mowing as I type this - which is probably what triggered my annoyance...

I think our neighbor is a compulsive mower! He mows his lawn every two days- NO JOKE!

Now your probably wondering why this is such a big deal...well our yards are attached in the front- so when he mows his yard and we don't - OURS looks horrible and scraggly.

We aren't neglectful lawn people- we mow twice a week...which is plenty I feel. I don't mind mowing- its alone time and makes your yard look great- so why not! But it tends to be chore. I am super busy during the day with little people and generally my evenings are full of girl scouts, sports practice, church group etc. So the dilemma is - when do I find time to mow!? The fact that I can find an hour twice a week to mow is pretty amazing- but it really busts my buttons when I find that time, mow my lawn, it looks great, green and manicured....and then two days later it looks like poo because my neighbor is out mowing his.

Just one of those pet peeves, I suppose! I think that coupled with the fact I'm battling a massive migraine and Corynn is bouncing off the walls- is just letting my nagging side out!

I think I'll log off now before I rant your blog-reading eyeballs out! :)

Mother's Day

We went back to GI town for Mother's Day. It's always nice going back and seeing family.

On my side of the family we have five generations of women.

Here are the girls with my great grandma...their GREAT-GREAT grandma.I love this woman- she is so strong and loving! I think she would have been one of my greatest bestest friends had we lived at the same time. Corynn is named after her.

There are four generations on John's side of the family.

Here are the girls with John's grandma...their great grandma. I love this woman too! She is a hoot! We are both a little...hmmmm... how shall I put it...forthright and blunt and sometimes find it hard to filter out the inappropriateness. ya- I think that says it best! Corynn is also named after her.

All of the women in our families are amazing.

My mom is one of the most giving and selfless people alive.

My mother in law is my role model- her example teaches me how to be the best mother, wife and person.

My grandma is the most forgiving person I know. I aspire to be at her level someday.

John's grandma is funny and little obnoxious- I hope to have that much humor and fun when I'm 93!

My great grandma is a strong women who has lived through so much - both historically and personally. She gave so much of herself to her family and sacrificed alot of herself in the process! She truly is amazing!

Monday MUNCHIES!!!!!!

This is for Jeff- I'll be making some for memorial day!

Potato Chip Cookies
1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 well beaten eggs
1 tsp soda
2 c flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
2 c potato chips, crushed (any flavor)
1 small pkg butterscotch bits

Cream shortening and sugars, add eggs. Then flour and soda. Mix well, then add crushed potato chips and butterscotch bits. Shape into balls the size of walnuts. Bake on ungreased (believe me there is plenty of grease in these little nuggets) cookies sheet for 1012 minutes at 325.

YUM - and I always made them to use up the crushed potato chips at the bottom of the bag. It doesn't matter if different flavors are combined (I'd start a container and dump the crumbs in there with every bag till I had enough for a batch of cookies) and it doesn't matter if they're old (you know the kind of potato chips that you wouldn't want to eat). They are still good in these cookies!

thanks mom for the recipe!

Chololesterol Check

I had a my cholesterol rechecked yesterday- it wasn't very good last December. In fact it was REALLY bad!

So by changing my diet and getting more active...I've lowered my bad cholesterol levels (67 points) and Total cholesterol levels (45 points). I've also raised my my good cholesterol (10 points) but that could stand to go up even more.

Exciting stuff... the joys of getting old! :0)

Kwynn's speech!!!!!!

Well, we finally got it back...and here it is!

Kelly Campaign 2008

I strongly believe that I would make a good candidate for class president. Our class president should be trustworthy and respectful. These are two words that describe many past US presidents. I feel these two words also describe me.

First, I'm a trustworthy person. You can count on me to help whenever necessary. I am honest in my actions. I always tell the truth. I do not hurt or put down others.

Secondly, I am respectful. I listen to my teachers. I wait until I am called on to answer. I never break things that I have borrowed. I always put things back where I found them. I treat all my classmates nicely.

You may be asking yourselves how will Kwynn improve our grade and school? I would work with Mrs. Richter (the principal) and the custodians to catch the kids who vandalized the bathrooms. I will put together a plan to make soccer more fair. I would also work with our teachers to set up class goals and rewards we would get for meeting them.

In conclusion, you should vote for someone you trust. You should vote for someone who cares about the 4th grade. You should vote for someone who cares about our school. You should vote for someone who will work hard and do their best. That someone is me. Vote for Kwynn Kelly.

Don't forget to breathe!

CRAZINESS!!!! Our lives are super busy right now- ha! Who am I kidding...we're always busy it seems! What family isn't!? :)

I am getting swamped with household duties i.e. laundry, dishes, sweeping, vacuuming etc. due to the BEAUTIFUL weather! We have been frequenting the dog park, walking to the 'fish' park, playing in the backyard, practicing softball, going on walks and doing yard work. We were outside most of the day today- I just didn't want to go inside! And our backyard has this huge shade tree- so its perfectly shady all day long back there! We looked for animals and shapes in the clouds, pulled weeds and practiced batting the ball. My face feels a little crispy but well worth it!

Here are the girls chillin on a blanket...the batting practice went on hold when Kayin stole the ball. I think they are totally ready for another sibling! Such good kids!

Softball, tee ball and summer chaos are closing in on us. We only have one free weekend left and it isn't until the weekend before school starts... in AUGUST! Completely crazy! But I'm not complaining- I like being busy and having stuff to do! :0)

MONDAY MUNCHIES!!!!!! (better late than never!)

1 Angel food cake mix (the one step kind)
1 can crushed pineapple

Mix together and put in an ungreased 9x13 pan and bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Watch so that the top doesn't get crusty. Cool. Serve with a dollop of whip topping.

Not sure of the calorie count- but it has to be super low! And it would make a really yummy light summer treat!

Friday FUNNIES!!!!

We had alot of fun delivering may baskets yesterday. There wasn't one big funny thing- just basically the whole experience. The girls were telling me where to park, they were hiding behind trees and tiptoeing past windows. It was really funny- especially since we went a little early and not many people were even home yet. But they still had fun.

It was also funny watching neighbors reactions to what we were doing. Some just stared with a skeptical eye and others smiled and waved.

Corynn took most of her baskets to school- so she only had one house to stop by. She was all set and had watched her sisters do the previous ones. I park a few houses down, she gets out, and starts toward the house. I figure she has it- when I notice she is going to the wrong house. (in her defense they were town houses and all looked exactly the same) So I send Kwynn out to get her before she rings the doorbell. TOO LATE- she was already running back to the van by the time Kwynn got to her. They quickly fixed the mistake and ran back to the van... its just a good thing their neighbor wasn't at home! :)

It was really cute and we had a lot of fun!

Happy May Day ...

This is the first year the girls and I have ever done May Day baskets. We made them just this last weekend, which was an afternoon of fun!
(NOTE: these are not what our baskets look like- just a pic off of google)

After school today - we'll be running around to all the houses and the girls will be in stealth mode. Corynn is super excited about this! Every morning for the last week she has asked "Is today the day I get to sneak up to people's houses and run away really fast?" She's even been practicing in the back yard. Knocking on the patio door and then trying to sneak off so I can't find her. Its really cute!

The twins are more excited about giving their friends something they made! They even made baskets for the 4th grade teachers...not sure how they are going to pull that one off. But they said they had a plan!

My favorite May Day story...

It was the year 2000, the twins were 2 and we lived in GI town. The house we lived in a had a huge picture window and you had to walk past it to get to the front door. The girls would spy on people coming and going- they loved it!

On May Day they had seen 'grandma' (John's mom) pull up to the house. The door bell rang and I came in from the other room to answer the door. As I walked to the door- grandma was leaving and the girls were crushed! The started crying and pointing out the window. I had figured out what was going on- so I quickly grabbed the baskets... thinking that would appease them. NOPE- they just wanted grandma to come back.

It really was sweet- and Nancy always does the coolest things!

Weigh in Wednesday Update:

I was so busy I forgot to post yesterday that I neither gained nor loss...just stayed the same. :(
So boring and disappointing. Only a few more days and the meds are outta here!
