swimmers

Last night the neighbors called and invited the girls to an impromptu swim. Corynn was ecstatic! She ran out the door before she finished her dinner. Evie so wanted to go! She cried, grabbed her suit, towel and goggles and kept pointing to the door. I thought I could persuade her to play in our pool...her little kiddy pool. Nope. She ran right past it, out the gate and started heading over to the neighbors.

It wasn't that we didn't want her to swim, its just that we needed to be there with her- obviously. And the invitation came just before dinner was ready. So I had to feed the rest of the family and clean up the kitchen. By then it was about time for Corynn to come back and do homework and such. I didn't think there would be enough time to get Evie in the pool.

John and I trekked over with Evie to get Corynn. And Evie got some swim time!

It may have only been for 15 minutes, but she had a blast!

vintage dresses

I love going to flea markets and antique stores! One of my favorite things to look for are little girl vintage dresses. They are so adorable and the materials and designs are so classic and sweet. I love the muted colors, the patterns, delicate little buttons and doll-like collars. I pretty much love everything about them! So with Evie...we were ecstatic to find out we were having another little girl!

I've only found three or four at local shops but with Etsy...you can search 4000+ pages of vintage children's clothes. They are fun to look at! Everything from early 1900s cloaks and rompers to the 1980s bold patterns and bright colors. The clothes from the 60s and 70s are quite crazy! So glad I wasn't born in that time! Those poor children!

I do have one outfit from when I was a child that I dressed Corynn in as a baby. It was the wrong size/season for Evie. Bummer, but here's Corynn wearing it!

so sweet!

Here are a few of Evie's dresses

She wore the blue one above for her birthday party! I think it will still fit for Halloween...we're going to add a red cloak and basket. She'll be our Little Red Riding Hood. So perfect!

This one was taken as part of Evie's 7 month photos. I love her chubby little face in this picture...reminds me so much of Gma Tillie! The dress is circa 1950s and the blanket was my mom's baby blanket (I think)

I also love hanging the dresses on old hangers in/around her room. They are so pretty and girly! And its  kind of fun to think about what other children wore these clothes. Where did they live? What year was it? Who made them? Several are handmade...was it a grandma, a mom? Was this a special dress...worn for a birthday too? A play dress?
Its so interesting to think about the history of things, and fun to know Evie is adding to that history as she makes her own memories in them and as we pass them down. Hopefully to her children and grandchildren.

Ice cream PaRtY

Evie's 2nd birthday party was this past weekend. We celebrated with family and enjoyed an ice cream bar.

Evie hates crowds...she freaked out at John's cousin's surprise party and ever since has been leery of crowds. I tried to limit her party to just family, but even then we're talking about 25 people. She was clingy and cranky. But the ice cream and toppings were yummy and I always love getting the family together. So all is well.

(pinterest fail: trying to make an ombre cake...it kind of worked. Although it really just looked like I let a child decorate it. Good thing it tasted good! )

she held onto sissy for dear life

the plan was to have the party on the patio with bubbles and balls, but it was 97 degrees with 62% humidity....which equals no freaking way! We voted last minute to keep the party indoors where it was cool! So we didn't end up using the fans...but they were still cute!

ice cream toppings...I forgot to put out the oreos and whip topping. Oooops...nobody noticed though!

Evie settled down and had fun once she was outside in the courtyard blowing bubbles. Its one of her favorite things to do and one of her favorite places to be.

We love you munchkin and wish you the happiest of birthdays on Thursday!
